What is excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)?
Hyperhidrosis affects 3% of the general population. Sweating occurs out of proportion to temperature, and your degree of physical activity or anxiety level. Excessive sweating can affect certain areas or the entire body. Underarms, palms/soles, and face are the most commonly affected areas. The condition occurs when the nerves responsible for triggering sweat glands become overactive. In some patients the condition is hereditary.
